It’s that time of year, again – the time for New Year’s Resolutions! Plans for a “better, healthier life” are being implemented as we speak but there’s someone else who deserves a little extra love in the new year. Your business! If things have seemed a bit monotonous, your business a little slower than you’d like it to be, take some time to reevaluate and reinvigorate your marketing plan. First stop, social media!
Why is social media so important? A positive experience with a brand on social media is more likely to lead to positive brand reputation and even an increase in growth and revenue. Ninety percent of millennials are on social media and one third of them say that their preferred method of communication with a business is through a social media platform. You see, it’s not all about promotion, engagement is key. So, it’s time to ask the tough questions with a social media check-up!
Who is your target audience?
Technically speaking, your target audience is a specific group of people who are most likely to respond positively to your marketing efforts. Sounds simple, right? Well, it is and it isn’t. If you haven’t already defined your target audience, it’s time to take a hard look at who you want your content to reach. This step is critical (and probably should have its own blog post) but its central themes are these:
Does your bio and content speak to your followers?
Once you’ve taken care of your target audience, you need to make sure your content is peaking to them. Does your bio tell a potential client who you are and how you can help them? Does your content provide value and make people want to read more? If not, take some time to refocus your content – make them want more!
Is your hashtag game on point?
Posts with at least one hashtag average higher engagement than those without. So, what are hashtags exactly? Hashtags are words or phrases (preceded with a hash sign #) that allow users to identify messages related to a certain topic. Well, that’s all good but how do you know you’re using the right ones? Strategy. Take a look at your target audience’s (remember them?) and competitors’ accounts, see what hashtags they are already using and engaging with. Niche hashtags, while not used as often, can be a great source of engagement for your brand – these users tend to be more actively engaged.
Are you engaging with your audience?
Speaking of engagement, how often are you engaging with your followers? Social media engagement is a two-way street. Liking a few photos or commenting on a post or two can make you stand out from your competition. While it’s time-consuming, it allows you to directly interact with your target audience and, hopefully, make a good impression. *Side note: PLEASE respond to social media messages and comments. On average it takes a brand 10 hours to reply (if at all). Your reputation is based on customer service; treat social media users just like you would any other potential customer!
So, you had your social media check-up — what’s your business’ social media diagnosis? Does it need a little help or are you well on your way to a healthy social media marketing plan? Either way, it’s a new year and a fresh start – time to up your game. If you need a little push in the right direction, let us know! The struggle is real, and Allium Associates want to help you through it!
